The ancient town
PORTA SANTA MARIA (SANTA MARIA GATE)

With its geometric design, it still has the proud aspect of fortification, with singular angle battlements. With its solemn outlines, underlined by the brown compact tile bricks: the fortress (dating from the second half of the 13th century) is the only one (the other four principals are San Florido, San Giacomo, Sant'Egidio) that remains in a good condition after the entrance arch was renovated, after heavy damage caused by wars.
