The ancient town
PIAZZA GARIBALDI (GARIBALDI SQUARE)

Overlooked by the large Vitelli Palace, made more important by Palazzo Albizzini, used now as museum, Piazza Garibaldi is where the Sant'Egidio ancient town gate was situated in the past. A project, conceived by Burri, never created, but definitely not put aside, prefigures the square renovation to fully emphasise its Renaissance style linked to the contemporary taste. Burri's project was to place one of his most famous sculptures in the centre of the Piazza and also to place a crystal palace at the end of the square as a spectacular setting for such a monumental place.
