CIVIC COLLECTION
The paleontological and archaeological section of the Civic Collection is the richest and widest in Umbria due to the Associazione Propostorica Altotiberina and many other local researcher's donations. It is situated in the Civic Library: it starts with a series of beautiful fossils, from the Palaeozoic to Cainozoic era (about from 600 million to 2 million year ago), ammonites, graptolites, sea cliff fauna remains and shelves; and also from Lago Trasimeno, animals' bones, stone tools and splinters used by Palaeolithic men; arrow tips, tools and jewellery items from the Neolithic era (6000/5000 BC); ceramics, vases remains, bronze ornaments from Iron age (3000 BC); and more recent finds from the Etrusco-Roman Age (among which are probable finds from Pliny the Younger's Villa), coins and one of the most important pieces of the collection: a bronze steelyard weight representing Minerva wearing a helmet framed by rams and crest.
